Treat #7 : Please and Thank You

Remember the two magic words? I was with a friend and her kids the other day. She was teaching her children the art of saying please and thank you to others. I thought to myself, I wonder if I say please and thank you as often as I could. The answer was, for the most part, yes. Then I heard an inner voice say, "but you forget to say them to me."

I knew that voice was telling the truth. There is no doubt about it; I have room for improvement on my report card in the "treatment of self" category. I am good at including 'please' when I ask others, but I can skip right over it with myself.

What if, instead of demanding I do a project, I access that sweet place inside and invite myself to do it - "Martha, will you please help me finish this up?" Suddenly one word engages my cooperation and willingness, and I am happy to do it.

Thanking others is also easy for me and, again, I just forget sometimes about thanking me. What if, after a very long day of handling a lot of completions, I heard a resounding, "THANK YOU, Martha you were amazing today!" Those words filled me right up inside - just like that.

A friend once told me that if we appreciate and acknowledge ourselves, we could produce miracles in our lives. I know we can, and with just these simple words.

Thanksgiving and every day is a time to give thanks for our blessings and to thank ourselves for who we are and what we contribute.

Please have a very happy Thanksgiving and thank you for being you.
